Operation OneSky3 - Europe Online

Event Announcement

Once again, we are inviting you all to take part in:

Experience all Centre positions within the Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network - Europe Region (VATEUR) staffed at least between
1600 and 2200 UTC
on 4 Oct 2003

Each country will provide complete staffing on Air Traffic Control positions for enroute and one or two international Airports per FIR.

Our three Divisions, plus VATSIM Israel (VATIL), will for the third time cooperate to create a situation never seen before to online ATC & flying networks. An entire VATSIM Region online, side to side. From Dublin to Ankara, from Moscow to Lisbon, and many many more. You will be able to experience ATC and flights all around you as in real life; non stop all the way!

If OneSky2 was not a blast, wait until you participate in this one.

Arm your Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) and be there this evening ;-)

Recommended

There are no special regulations for this evening, except for some pilot flight planning recommendations, and some hints on the use of additional applications:

1) Try to perform inter-continent (not national) flights to make proper use of this great and unprecedented service of VATSIM Europe Region (VATEUR) controllers. And -, please be nice and patient -, because you are participating in traffic never seen before that is hard to manage by every controller involved.

2) If you use RogerWilco for your voice communications, PLEASE set your Modem Connection speed to "Slow Modem" regardless of your Internet connection speed. Otherwise RogerWilco sometimes "abuses" your PC as a server, which results in huge lags to everyone in the same voice room. Thank you!

3) Use ServInfo to check expected ATIS info, server performances, traffic spread per airport (controller) and much more. In the new version (v2.01), released 17 Sep, you can also display ATC Bookings in Europe, i.e. planned manning of FIRs and Airports.
Of course the good old WhazzUp is obviously not to be neglected!

4) Controllers in this event (as everywhere) will expect pilots to be updated with the latest AIRAC Cycle. Make sure your Navigation data is up to date by visiting the NAVData website.

5) During this event, ATC observers (OBS) will be requested to disconnect as we will be using the network resources to its maximum. Please show understanding and avoid unnecessary consumption of network bandwidth.

Except from this... simply have (realistic) fun !

If you have any questions, please post them on the Simflight vatsim-eur forum, available via news server subscription, or via the VATSIM Main page > Community > Forum link.

Looking forward to having You with us!

Participants

Pilots are strongly recommended to check the VACC's web page of the country they are going to fly to for the latest Charts, Notams and News !

We will try to man the European Upper Information Regions (UIR). For more info on the UIRs, see here.

There are plans to have someone taking snapshots during the event, as well as collecting data for inputs to the fly-in report.

In addition, there will be at least 2 Supervisors responsible for announcements of VACCs, and monitoring the servers. This to ensure that any Broadcast messages will come from one single source only, and to limit the danger of server overloads (spreading of traffic, if required).

A list of participating Virtual Area Control Centres (VACCs) with all Centre positions guaranteed staffed from 1600 to 2200 UTC, plus Airports staffed with Ground, Tower and Approach/Departure positions, is now available here.

The list has started to be populated, and all Division's VACCs are expected to participate ;-)

Participating Divisions / VACC members will soon receive further briefing information on the operational part of this event.

Network monitoring

We will have close cooperation with the VATSIM Network staff to ensure, especially during this evening, that the network run as smooth as it should regarding overall performance. People in charge will be monitoring the network during the entire event.

OneSky3 Debrief

The OneSky3 Debrief page is available here.

On behalf of VATEUR, VATEUD, VATRUS, VATUK and VATIL,

The VATSIM Europe Region Controllers and Virtual Airline Community.
