OneSky2 - Debrief
Updated: 2003-03-21

Background

The ONESKY 2 Flyin event took place on Saturday 8 Mar 03, between 1600z and 2200z, as the second ONESKY event within 6 months.

The list of FIR/VACC's that participated in the event is available here.

Two of the European UIRs were planned to be manned between 1830 and 2130z:

  • EURE_FSS
  • EURN_FSS

Unfortunately, due to last minute real-life commitment, one controller had to withdraw.

  • 2 Supervisors were responsible for announcements of VACCs, and monitoring of servers.
  • Two Staff members were tasked to provide screenshots during the event.
  • There were no special regulations for ONESKY 2, except the ones announced for ONESKY 1, and some flight planning recommendations for the pilots.

Flyin Debriefing

For the second time our three Divisions cooperated in creating a situation never seen before. An entire VATSIM Region online, side to side.
From Dublin to Ankara, from Moscow to Lisbon, and many many more. You were able to experience ATC and flights around you as in real life; non stop all the way!

The ONESKY 2 Flyin started at 1600 zulu. Except for a few late arrivals, and one cancellation due to unexpected conditions, all VACC's were online just in time.

According to statistics, the concurrent connections recorded on this Saturday night was 858, which is A NEW VATSIM RECORD! Very many thanks to our Members.

These are the maximum concurrent connections per hour as provided by the VATSIM statistics for that evening:

1600-1700 (577)

1700-1800 (696)

1800-1900 (776)

1900-2000 (846)

2000-2100 (858)

2100-2200 (835)

Around 140 ATCs served the air traffic during the event throughout EUROPE, UK, RUSSIA and ISRAEL.

More than 600 aircrafts participated, belonging to VA's throughout the world.

The Official Flyin ended at 2200 zulu, with the broadcast of Mr Kyprianos Biris (VATEUR1).

No major conflicts or incidents have been reported.

Logs and Screenshots

The following file downloads are available:

  1. Stephen Odgaard has provided a very comprehensive and complete log of all online movements (On/Off/ARR/DEP/etc), covering the period from 1400z to 2359z (i.e. the Event timeslot +/- 2hours).
The file is an Excel spreadsheet (xls) which includes detailed information on individual airports/FIRs. By using the filter options in Excel, you can sort the information to your liking. The file is available as a zip-file here (105Kb).
  2. The above file is also available as a PDF-file here (215Kb), in text form, without the filter options.
  3. Kyprianos Biris has provided a recorded ServInfo file which gives details of the situation at 2008z with 848 members online. The file is available as a zip-file here (91Kb).

VATEUD6 has provided the following screenshots:

1956z: Flyin would be fantastic and calm with only VACC's online !!!!!!!

1954z: Unfortunately reality was like this !!!!!!

Maybe better without aircraft tags?

2051z: Like blood vessels in a human body

1926: YOU ARE WRONG! This is not the radar screen of a real-world ATC, it's only a screenshot from VATEUR1's new ASRC, taken during ONESKY 2
